There are plenty of questions that you may have about tutoring, coaching or personal organisation. Please take a look and see if they are answered here:
1. Can you come to my house?
If you are living in the areas I cover, I can certainly come to your house. Or we can meet in a public place, such as a library or cafe. Here is a list of the areas I cover:
Basildon, Benfleet, Billericay, Chalkwell, Cranham, Hadleigh, Hockley, Laindon, Leigh-on-sea, Prittlewell, Rayleigh, Rochford, Shoeburyness, Southend-on-sea, South Woodham Ferres, Thorpe Bay, Upminster, Westcliff-on-Sea, Wickford.
If you live near these areas, then it is possible that I will still be able to tutor you at home, so please contact me. If not, you can still be tutored via Skype.
2. Can I come to your house?
No, I unfortunately do not offer tuition from my home in person, only via Skype. I have a lot of experience in tutoring online and feel it is suitable for most clients.
3. I live outside of the UK, but can you still tutor me?
Yes, absolutely! I offer tuition via Skype and would be happy to tutor you in any of the areas that I offer. Just remember that the times I am available, listed in my calendar, are always stated in GMT (UK time zone), so please make sure you are confident you can make the time that you book by checking the time difference beforehand.
4. What qualifications do you have? What makes you a good tutor?
I’m a qualified teacher, with specialisms in the areas of German, English and Film & Media Studies. I hold a PGCE (secondary) and gained an cross-disciplinary PhD at The University of Nottingham. I have a BA hons in German and Portuguese, also from The University of Nottingham. My A levels were in German, English Literature and Religious Studies. As well as a PGCE, I hold the Associate Teachers’ Programme qualification which is one third of a PGCHE and this programme lead to me becoming a member of the Higher Education Academy. I have also won an award for excellent contribution to teaching at The University of Nottingham.
I do not only have a PhD and a PGCE, but I have 10 years of teaching experience, 5 of which were teaching at University level. I really enjoy teaching and have extensive experience – at Secondary and Higher Education, in particular. I have taught both children and adults.
I have been working in the secondary sector since 2015 and have achieved 100% A*-C grades at GCSE in 2017. In a recent (2017) teaching observation, I was graded as an outstanding teacher for my Film Studies lecturing with the WEA, as well. This year my students achieved a whole grade higher than their target grades. Between 2010 and 2014, I taught History and Film Studies modules in the German department at The University of Nottingham and also worked for the Workers’ Educational Association teaching adults Film and Gender studies courses across the East Midlands.
I have tutored students of various levels, including postgraduates and non-native speakers of English and would be happy to do so again. Get in touch if you are a native German or Portuguese speaker and would like tuition, as I am fluent in both languages.
I have previously taught English as a foreign language abroad also, in both Brazil (tutoring postgraduates) and Austria (teaching classes of children aged 10-14). I also taught the children in Austria art, music and German. Since 2015, I have been teaching at secondary and sixth form level in the UK.
5 What is your teaching style like?
My approach to teaching is varied. I like to let students think for themselves and that way they gain confidence and critical thinking skills, as well as knowledge. I guide them in the right direction.
I teach using a variety of methods, including visual and aural aids, to find out which learning styles suit my students best because I understand that every student is unique. I use many different learning formats and tools: from discussing films, having a debate, making flow charts and posters, to teaching essay writing, conversation classes and grammar classes.
As I am dyslexic myself, I understand the difficulties involved and am happy to work with dyslexic students and students with ADD as I have a range of strategies I can share. I really enjoy working with students with special needs! Please get in touch if you are a student with special needs, and need tutoring.
6. How do I know when you are available to tutor me?
I work Sunday-Friday for both face-to-face tutoring and online tutoring. You can visit my online calendar to find a free regular slot. If you are booking a session with less than 48 hours notice, you will be charged emergency rates – see below. Once you have booked your session via email, making sure it is not within the next 48 hours to get the normal lesson costs, then click here to pay the correct amount according to the price quoted.
7. I’ve agreed to a regular tuition slot but I can’t make it, can I please have my money back?
I require 48 hours notice for lessons cancellations via phone or email. This is because tutoring and coaching are my main source of income and I need to pay my bills. There is a very high demand for tuition, particularly during the popular tuition times. Therefore, I am frequently turning away students who want the popular times and so, as I’m sure you understand that when students agree to have regular slots for the month, they are committing to those slots, as I could have given them to other students. So please do make sure if you are unable to make it, that you give me enough notice otherwise the lesson will be charged. For example, if your lesson is at 7.45pm on a Wednesday, you need to let me know before 7.45pm on the Monday. Thank you for your consideration.
8. Help! I have an exam this week and I need a tutor right now! It’s an emergency. Can I book a session for as soon as possible?
If you are in a crisis now and really need to be tutored straight away, rather than wait a week or two to get an appointment, that is completely understandable! To book an emergency appointment (giving me only 48 hours notice or less), pick an option below.
60 min Emergency Tutoring – £80.00
90 min Emergency Tutoring– £110.00
120 min Emergency Tutoring – £140.00
Before you make your payment, contact me to ask if I have a free slot and download an emergency tutoring questionnaire. I will try to respond as soon as I can. Fill it out and email it back to me before the session, so that I can help you get the most out of your session. Then click here to pay the amount according to how long you need with me. If after you have answered the questionnaire, I’m confident I can’t help you, I will reimburse you and let you know.
1. What is coaching?
Coaching is a professional relationship that creates change in the client’s life by empowering them to be able to produce positive transformations in their life, careers or business. Coaching helps the client to understand where they are current at with their goals and assist them in identifying any limiting beliefs, but helps them to also identify their strengths, resources, core beliefs and how they can achieve their goals. Coaching is a very powerful tool for changing your mindset, relationships and finances.
2. How many sessions will I need?
Most people find that between 10 and 30 (weekly or fortnightly) one-hour sessions are great for what they need, but it really depends on the person and their situation! Coaching is booked in blocks of 10 sessions and I will be able to give you more information at the end of your free consultation session. Email me to book your free session
3. I’m looking for a coach and I think we might be a good fit. How can I be sure?
Excellent question. I have a Certificate in Personal Coaching and have coached and mentored numerous people to achieve their goals. Go with your gut feeling, I know I did when I first got a coach who helped me transform my life. I offer one free session, via Skype, as a consultation session for educational progress coaching, life coaching and decluttering coaching. I hope that you’ll take me up on that offer and we’ll just go from there to make transformative changes to your life. Email me to book your free session.

However, if after you have answered the questionnaire, I’m confident I can’t help you, I will reimburse you your money and direct you to any other resources that can help. Also, if you are finding yourself regularly in emergency-type situation I will recommend ongoing life coaching or other interventions, such as counselling.
